no transitions

whenever i tried to apply a transition in adobe premiere 6.0, it has absoloutely no effect on the videos whatsoever, i have the videos in video1 a and b, with the transition in the overlapping region in the transition bar, still nothing..i assume its very esy, so maybe im missing something simple.....any suggestions?

You must reneder the area before you can see the transition.

Right click on the "transition clip"(the one between Video 1 a and b) and bring up the transition dialog. The slider on your left frame [that is marked A] should be in its start position. It may have happened that you moved the slider to the end position and left it there while verifying the transition settings.
