  1. I just downloaded a movie and have only burned the first CD to make sure it was ok before I burned all of them. It is in letterbox format and I was wondering if there is a way to change to full screen? My player is playing it in full screen, but the movie itself is letterbox. I sure would appreciate any help or suggestion.

  2. You have two choices, if you wish to convert a letterbox vid to full screen:

    1. Keep all of the picture, but stretch it to the top and bottom so that every thing looks too tall and too thin, sometimes really tall and really thin.

    2. Maintain the aspect ratio by chopping off the left and right side of the picture, then scale the remainder up to fit the screen, so you can miss out on important parts of the various scenes and destroy the director's vision - how they wanted the film to appear.

As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. I need help with this format also. Please, won't some one be more definitive as to how we can get a suitable image to be full screen on our TV's.

  4. Thank you for the informative website on widescreen/letterbox movies. I can appreciate your position on this and others as well. But since I do not have a widescreen tv, unfortunately, I can not appreciate this format the way it was intended. It has turned out to be a distraction for me only being able to see the characters in the movie waist to chest high. I would rather be able to see the characters and immediate surroundings than the scenery behind or beside them.
But I do thank you for your input.

  6. In tmpgnc under the advance tab select the no margin tab for the screen size. This will chop off some of the left and right of the picture you currently have but it will make it full screen so everything won't look tall and skinny.

  8. OK guys--I think I am closing in of the solution to this headache-------to my surprise, no one has said anything about "dumb blondes"--well any way, I found this "neat" site "Doom9.net". His tutorials and the "URL" to all the software sites was/is extremely helpful. He goes into great detail about letterbox, 4/3, 16/9 and all that good stuff. I think we all knew how to clip the borders, but that was always at the expense of "Quality" in the finish product. I've downloaded his tutorials and I will try to edit a film tonight--if it works, I have to brush up on my math and ratios, Then I will be happy to submit my solution to the administrators of this site, or any one else---to see if I am correct or just another dumb blonde!!!

In Tmpeg advance select "video arrange method" and select "center custom size" . Set it at a 2 -to-1 ratio.i.e. 480 x 240 and you get almost full screen, left and right will be cut off but aspect ratio will be preseved.
