easy question about mpeg to rm

This is an easy question but it seems that I have drawn a blank. I have a file that is a rm file, but the original author named it a mpeg file. I can view it fine with my RP but when I try WMP or any other player it will not read. The problem is I am trying to convert this file to an avi file using EO but EO is trying to read it with the WMP. I have tried renaming it but it will only let me change is the title, not the file type name.

Let me reiterate that this file is a rm file anyways. If someone could help please let me know. Thanks.

Go to My COmputer
Go to tools
click folder options

in there there should be an option to
"hide file extensions for known file types"
uncheck the box

hit OK
then now you should be able to see the file extension
being able to do this you can now renam it to WHATEVER.rm

Then open in Vdub and convert it to avi
