This is kinda "on the fringe........"!
Does anybody know or have any information about the format of CDs that can be played on standalone MP3 CD players?
Do the files have to be in any particular directory structure? Do certain files have to be in any particular physical position on the CD (like with VCDs)?

    Thanks for reading!

  2. If your using nero to burn them.
Choose CDROM-ISO, then drag your files over, and burn.
If your running xp and are using the built in burning, just drag your mp3 files over, it will ask you if you want to burn them to play on your computer or on a cd player, choose the computer.
    simple as pie

You should also check with the instruction book for your player. Some players support different options like long/short file names. I have an MP3 deck in my car whick supports the old ID tags, but not the new ones. This can be important depending on what you want to play your MP3s in, especially older MP3 players that are more picky about how they are burned.

This is NOT a dumb question, in fact a LOT of people have trouble with this, as some players are wildly different from others as far as compatability. I believe these rules must apply:

1--> Make it a MODE 1 (data) CD.

2--> Create FOLDERS underneath the root, THEN drag-and-drop your mp3's to be UNDER those directories. Certain players (like Apex DVD's) require that they be in SUBDIRECTORIES. So long as they're at least 1 level under the "root", you can decide how to sort them from there. If you don't do this, it'll act unpredictably.

3--> MAKE SURE TO "CLOSE" THE DISC so no more sessions can be written. Lots of players will skip over some files if you don't do this, who knows why.

Note also if your player is a standalone DVD, and it only shows the first 8 characters, this isn't the fault of your burn, but just how the player reacts. Not much you can do about this.

If I said anything wrong, correct me...
