If while trying to load an *.mpg or *.mpeg video you get the following message:
File "X.mpg" can not open, or unsupported.
Try this workaround:
Open Windows Explorer and go to the directory the *.mpg file is stored. Click once on the file to highlight it. The Windows Media preview window should show the first frame of the video. You should now be able to open the file with TMPGEnc 12i.
Alternatively, you can also start Windows Media Player, load the file, then open it with 12i.
This workaround may also work for people who are getting the same error when trying to open *.avi;*.mov;*.qt; and *.asf files.
The reason it might work is because TMPGEnc 12i uses the DirectShow engine to read these files. I'm guessing the engine isn't running, or 12i has some problem with accessing it.
Anyway, the workaround works let's me access MPEG-2 files with 12i. Post here if you find it works for other files as well.
