I was about to purchase the PRO when my 2.53 started having an Illegal Floating Point Error. I have read articles about turning OFF the SSE & SSE2 but that causes the encoding time to double (or more). What is the point of having a nice P4 if I cannot use its full power.

What is going on here? These are NTSC DVD rips. I have successfully used 2.53 to encode non stadard VCDs based upon the KVCD templates.

IN FACT, I have encoded the same video several times and got the ERROR when I made a reduction in MAX bitrate to make the file smaller. Here is what happended:

    1) 704x480 29.97fps CQ 50 300-1500 44k 128kbps.mpg WORKED! File 831MB
    2) 704x480 23.976fps CQ 50 300-1440 44k 128kbps.mpg WORKED! File 731MB
    3) 704x480 29.97fps CQ 50 300-1440 44k 128kbps.mpg ERROR! File ??MB

    What is happening?
Thank You & Have a great Day! :)

Normally this happens when TMPGENC hits some junk frames, or at the end when video finishes and there is some audio left

Since it is not at the end I would rule out the audio part. 8)

Junk frames? Why did it encode the other 2 times? If it is that problem, how do I analyse the VOB files?

I also have the P4, and TMPGEnc only gives problems with some junk frames. Did you do the DVD rip, or did you download it ? If its one you have downloaded, then I guess that is the problem.

If you do a normal encode without changing anything (template) does it still crash ?

NOT downloaded, DVD rip. I will try the normal templates.
