  2. first question would be are you converting the mpg to the vcd format using a product like nero, cd creator, etc.? The chance of your dvd player(I am guessing stand alone) playing a native mpeg without using one of these products to convert it to a vcd/svcd/cvd, etc.?

As far as being "pissed" for wasting 4 CD's. All I can say is you better start scouring the best buy ads for deals on CD's your are going to have A LOT of coasters if you start into VCD creation.

yeah i forgot to put that in last bit of my message,,, I did use Nero to complete the process to VCD format,, I have already made two VCD's using movies that were already in .MPG format when i downloaded them, and they work fine...this .AVI on the other hand isnt working out too well,, I also noticed that when i do stick this not working VCD into my standalone DVD, a bunch of folders comes up on the screen, the other ones that do work dont have these popping up

  4. ah! You have to convert the AVI file over to an mpeg file. I believe that nero can do it for you (I'd recommend TMPGENC - in tools section) to convert it to an mpeg.

Is the file that you have a TRUE AVI. A lot of divx files have an extension of AVI, but it is not a true AVI file, but rather a HIGHLY compressed video format (mpeg 4, I believe).

An easy check is that if it is a movie(70+ minutes), check the file size. If it is under/around 600 meg, there is a good chance that it is a divx.

When you convert whatever AVI file you have to mpeg, you should be able to burn it using nero.

  5. what was the steps you used in nero to burn the mpeg file to a usable SVCD or DVD... I get nero to burn but i have something screwy happen after it is completed...

  6. My files are in a compliant vcd mode (320x240 1150 bit rate) and i open nero up and click on vcd (actually all of mine now are non compliant SVCD - I now do CVD which is to me a much better picture, etc.) and then go to burn, pull the file in, nero does its little check thing and then I burn it.

When you dump your mpeg file into nero and it checks it (VCD), does it tell you its out of compliance at all???? VCD is very "you must have it this way or else". SVCD, however, is a little more friendly with messing with stuff.
