dvd drive problem

I keep having a recurring problem. When I use any ripper either for dvd or audio cd's, I get a error.

the screen goes blue and the following message is displayed.

Disk write error to drive c:
Data may be lost.

Hit any key to continue.

The program will then start up again but the data files can either be broken or corrupted.

This problem has happened on two different computers which I own.

something you have on them (some software probably) is causing a conflict. Have you defraged your hardrive lately?

All i have installed is power dvd, dvd decripter and dvdx.

I usually defrag the hard disk after every error.
