if i want to back up a dvd with a dvd-ram drive, do i have to rip it and encode it or can it be copied entirely with the menu and all?
Sorry if this is remedial, i dont have a dvd-ram drive yet, so i havent read about it much.

You would be limited to 4.7GB so a 1:1 copy would problematic. You would still have to rip and re-encode as required.

Oh just in case your thinking about the 5.2 or 9.4 GB media. This is double sided media. 1:1 copy still problematic.
