I have a Creative PC-DVD player that says it reads CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW up to 40X. Well, the only problem with this statement taken directly from the box is that I can't even get it to keep the tray door closed when I stick any type of media in the drive other than a DVD disk. Has anyone ever encontered anything like this before? I want to keep this in my computer for ripping, but want to use it for my main CD-Rom drive too.
I am running WinXP on a 1GHz PIII with 512MB and 110GB HD space..... is there a setting under XP for this, I have looked everywere, but have not been able to locate any specific settings....

Do you have "Auto play" or "Auto run" switched on ? This could be the problem, if it detects and rejects the disk. Switch them off

KingJohn is right ..... check to see if any DVD playback software (including MediaPlayer) is set to AutoPlayback for DVD disks.
If it is, then everytime you put anything but a DVD in the drive, the software will detect that it's not a DVD and spit it back at you!
Hope this helps!

I checked windows setting and made sure it was set to "Do Nothing", but didn't think to check and see if PowerDVD has a setting in it for autoplay. Thanks for your help... I will check this afternoon when I get home....
