  1. I follow the tutorial to a T and when I click on make Avi it just sits there and does nothing. It's not locked up because I can close the program fine.
Does anyone know of an easier way of converting mpg1 to divx4 avi?

Did you select Video > Full processing mode, then select compression, then a codec to use.
Did you select Audio> Full processing mode, then select compression, then a codec to use.

  3. Yes I did.
I used the divx4 codec for video (high and low)
and used the mpeg layer3 and divx for audio

when I used the mpeg layer3 is seemed to work fine until about the 5th from last frame and then i received a "Sync Error".
Doing it that way would have done exactly what I wanted as making the file size about half of the mpg but the quality looked like crap.
I think i'm just going to have to keep tweaking until I get it right.

  4. I posted a post just like this not long ago. I kept getting sync errors but when i tried compressing small files i didnt get that sync error. What im doing know though is selecting only part of the file and turning that into avi then i will do the same to the 2nd half. For some reason, I think like after 30 mins of video virtual dub screws up and goes to sync error. Hopefully compressing files part from part will work and all ill need to do is find an avi joiner. Ill keep you informed if it works. I wouldnt try tweaking too much because i did that yesterday and nothing worked

Don't you mean the other way around?
TMPGEnc doesn't convert from mpg to avi.

5th from the last frame gosh your accurate, I guess the mpeg is not a full set of 18 frames, if you stop before the frame is the error still there ?

Oh and TMPGEnc will save out an AVI from an Mpeg File > Output to file
