    Can anyone please help.
My daughter is trying to capture video, using JVC DVL100 camcorder & Pinnacle Studio, via firewire. Windows98 is the operating platform.

She can see the video playing in the capture screen, but each time she selects capture the computer freezes. No capture.

    Dutchman.

    Thank you for your interest.

I will ask my daughter for the computers spec and post later.
The computer in question is at her school.

  4. I had this same problem. Turned out my capture card (SIIG combo 1394/usb2.0) was incomptable with my motherboard (soyo dragon+ using via chipset).

Problem went away when I switched over to the ADS BasicDV 1394 card.

Keep AWAY from SIIG cards altogether. They screwed me: acknowledged their card has incomptabilities that they know about, they don't post those problems on their website, and they refused to refund my money or exchange the board for a different model that would work.

    Dutchman,
The spec of the PC is as follows:-

Intel Pentium 3 650mhz 256 mb ram HD 93.2 gig

I hope this helps, no more information available, sorry.

Update, they have managed to capture 10 minutes of video, with no faults.
But they don't know why it worked this time.
    They altered nothing.

It will be very hard to solve a problem like this.......

The first thing to check are the hardware specs, but as far as I can tell, the PC has the minimum specifications required for capturing through firewire.

Is DMA enabled? Are there other programs running in the background? (like anti-virus programs?) If other programs are running, then maybe your CPU or other components are overloaded.

    Maybe this helps:
press "ALT-CONTR-DEL" at the same time. Now you can see all programs active at the moment. To run Windows 98, you only need "explorer" and "systray". You can select other programs, and disable them one by one.
When only explorer and systray remain, you can open the capture program.

The next time you will start up the PC, all programs will be active again.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if this was of any use.
