hey everybody..complete newbie question here.
I was recently trying to convert an ac3 encoded wav file using h3adache and got the following error message:
bad syncword at frame 98379, the ac3 stream is probably corrupt.
Is there any way to fix the file?
I've searched the forums and web and can't come up with any answers to this problem.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions![]()

Did you encode the audio as AC3 or download it? AC3 audio is a standard of DVD audio. I have tried many programs to convert AC3 to other formats and have had very little success.

Thanks for the reply.
it was on a diivx I downloaded - so I hate to delete it and have to start all over. -
Hi, for some reason people are not able to do what I do
I have the Nimo codec pack installed, which provided the AC3 codec, once this is installed I have no problem in converting and saving the WAV in Vdub
Vdub
Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > Conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV -
I wish it was that easy for me, king john. I have the nimo codec installed as well but whenever I try that Vdub always comes up with a message about an unsupported format something or other. It would sure be nice to cut out that extra AC3/wav conversion step.
This is the seconnd movie I've downloaded that has an error in the AC3 stream....(both of em were 2 part avi-s..so thats like 3 gig in download time wasted) big bummer after spending all that time downloading only to be stuck watching it on the computer instead of the home theater. -
DanW, not at my home PC at the mo so can't check this bit IIRC Headach3e displays the number of frames in the AC3 file before you start conversion. If, as happened to me (with a 2 part Dixv!) the error was on the last frame, you can reduce the number of frames to convert by 1 and hit go. You will get all but the last frame of audio which is not noticeable.
Hope this helps. -
Hey, I had the exact same problem, and everything I tried on these forums didn't help me, so I experimented, and this is how I got it to work.
Search Google for "avi2vcd" and you should get a crappty program that converts AVI to MPEG. It comes with a program, called Decompress.exe, which decompresses the Audio of DivX files into PCM. Perfect.
I thought I was going to get the error, "Bad syncwarrd blah blabh", bit it worked just fine.
Remember though, this is coming from a guy that hasn't burned a successful VCD yet... (I'm starting to believe bad DVD player?) Sigh...
Good luck... -
Thanks Bugster, I didnt really pay attention to what particular frame it was on so I'll have to give that a try when I get home from work tonight and see where in the film that bad frame is..never really thought about doing that one..good tip!

Thanks crazy..I'll search for that decompress program and give that a shot if bugsters tip doesnt pan out. Wish there was someway to just ignore the ac3 stream and go with 2 channel stereo. Dont know if anything like that is even possible tho.
the funny thing is..this movie is for my woman..I dont even wanna watch the stupid thing..lol but she keeps bugging me for it so I gotta figure something out. Guess I may have to resort to just renting the damn thing..hehe -
