  1. I am getting the following error message when I load the AC3 file generated from DVD2AVi from Shrek into Spruceup.
Cannot locate a frame SYNC word at expected byte offset. Data might be corrupted, Is it possible to fix this problem, is it caused by a bad rip?

  2. You can try and run ac3fix on it. You can find it on http://www.divx-digest.com .

  4. Wicked_Al downloaded ac3fix but really do not have a clue how to run it with a command line as I have no experience doing this kind of thing.
I am running XP pro could you give me an example of a typical command to get it to work. I have got the program on the root of my C drive along with the ac3 file named shrek.

  5. Sure.

    Start->Run->cmd
    cd <ac3fix dir>
    ac3fix <ac3fix dir>\shrek.ac3 <ac3fix dir>\shrek.fixed.ac3

It'll go through and check the ac3 file, and write you a correct one. I've only ran it once to verify an ac3 file. If the original is correct it'll basically write a copy of the input file.

    Usage: ac3fix <full path to input file> <full path to output file>

The is another program called ac3cutframe, but I couldnt get it to work...I didnt try very hard, but none the less it didnt seem to do anything except create a 1K file. I'm also using XP, and from the looks of it it might work in one fo the compatibility modes.

Are you ripping the audio using DVD2AVI and demuxing all tracks? I wasn't doing that, which was the root of my problem.

  6. Ok m8 I run the following from the command prompt

    C:/ac3fix C:/shrek C:/shrek.fixed.ac3

    The response I get is
Starting. Input file is C:/shrek, output file is C:/shrek.fixed.ac3
ERROR: Cannot open C:/shrek for reading

Any idea what I'm doing wrong. The ac3 file is fine and i can open it with powerdvd ok. I am ripping with DVD2AVI but I am not demuxing all the tracks.
    Many thanks for your patience.

  7. hmm...why doesnt shrek have an extension? Also, in your posts you had forward slashes (/), not back slashes (\). I dont know if those are intentional, but in Windows you wont be able to find a file that way.

So you are doing a decode AC3 with DVD2AVI? So shrek is probably a wav? Well, DVD2AVI sometimes has problems decoding AC3 and converting to WAV. I just had this problem the other day. If you still have the VOBs I'd suggest demuxing all tracks, that way you'll get an true ac3 file, then you can use ac3fix to check, and use Bsweet/Azid to proberly convert to a WAV/MP2.

  8. Hi Wicked_Al,
Ok corrected the /s to \s and used .ac3 extention but get the same result. I am using DVD2AVI but I I'm selecting Demux on the Dolby Digital menu not decode so I'm getting an ac3 file ok, any other suggestions.
    Thanks apollo

  9. How are you ripping the VOBs? Try using SmartRipper...
