I have a ZIP file that I have contains the following file types:
*.CUE
*.IMG
*.SUB
I have tried CDRWIN, It burned OK, But I was not able to play it !
I tried Nero ver. 5.5.8.0 witch can open CUE files, but I got an error
regaring the burner do not support TAO ?
I opened *.IMG file from WinISO and it seems to contain all the files for the VCD (It have all the files and directory for a VCD)
Is there a way to take the VCD files and convert it to a MPG so I can re-encode it to VCD/SVCD ?
(I normally convert/encode Divx files to VCD/SVCD with no problems)

Yeah, use WinIso. Copy avseq01.dat to the hard drive. Rename it to something.mpg and there it is!
-
You should not rename a dat file to an mpg. This only changs how windows views the file, it is still a dat. This could potentially cause problems when burning, though I've never actually heard of it happening.
Still, it takes about 1 min to convert a dat to mpg using vcdgear (www.vcdgear.org.) Better safe than sorry. -
Nero, Easy CD (VCD Creator), Video Pack 5.1 all except .dat files without the need to change the headers. As do TMPGENc and Vdub.
-
But that is the whole point. If you rename a dat to mpg than windows thinks its an mpg even though its not. Its possible that if you feed this renamed dat into a burning software program it will treat it like a mpg and attempt to add the file headers again. You'd be better off leaving it as a dat file to begin with and even better converting it to mpg since that what all vcd authoring software is designed to use.
Like I said, using dat files or renaming dat files probably won't cause problems but it is possible. Why take the chance? -
You don't need to rename anything for windows Media player to play it, double click and select open with, will do exactly the same thing. My posts does not suggest you do re-name it, although it wont hurt anyway.
All Authoring programs analyze the file you give it no matter what it is, if it happens to be a renamed .dat or a .dat file it matters not, they will still except them as they are, and will know exactly what they are.
If a .dat file is added to any of those programs it does not need to change the headers, as they are already changed, they wont add 2 headersThese is no need to use VCDGear at all
I am not arguing with what you are saying, just pointing out there is no real need to edit the .dat file they will be perfectly ok as they are.
jxbond, sorry for the confusion you can use the ISO Buster to extract the .dat you can then use this to re-author a new VCD, you will loose any menu's that may have been created, other than that it should be fine in Nero, provided who ever made the original mpeg did so using the correct specifications for a fully compliant VCD, if you add the .dat file to Nero, or the others and it warns you, then you may need to re-process the .dat file with TMPGEnc and a VCD template
Adam, "But that is the whole point"
You could also say the same for converting the .dat file to a mpg ?
When you rename a .dat file so that Media player will play it, this does not fool the media player into thinking its an mpeg, it mealy associates the extension with media player, if you renamed an AVI to a .mpg This does not make media player think its an .mpg BUT ! it will still play it -

Not following you here. If the authoring program asks for an mpg and you give it an mpg then where is the problem there? If it wants an mpg and you give it a dat file, regardless of what its file ext is, then that could potentially cause a problem. It probably won't but like I said, why take the chance.
All I'm saying is that it doesnt matter that a renamed dat will play, or that most authoring programs will just as readily accept and burn a dat file as an mpg. I'm saying that besides being pointless to rename a dat file to an mpg, it is probably not wise. If you have a dat and want an mpg then convert it properly. -
It probably won't but like I said, why take the chance.
Have you actually tried this ?, because I have. Nero, Easy CD Creator, ( VCD Creator) Video Pack 5, all take the .dat files and I have never seen any complaint.
Anyway, like you say it only takes a few minuets anyway to remove the headers. BUT unless people try things as they are, they will never know if they need to waste time with other programs.
Like saving out the audio unnecessary with every AVIbefore mpeg1 encode.
-
Yes I have tried it many times and I have never heard of this ever causing a problem. I said this all before. But just because it works once or even a hundred times that doesn't mean it will work evertime because THIS IS NOT HOW THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO WORK. Also I am not talking about the burning program giving you an error, I am talking about it corrupting your file. The disks that you author in this manner might be non-compliant without you even knowing it and they might have compatibility problems on future players. I don't know how I can be any more clear about this. You might be wasting that 1 min to convert but you are guaranteed that it will work. Not converting it probably will never cause problems but the potential is there, simple as that. If your willing to take this minor risk thats perfectly fine but converting to mpg is very fast so I don't see it as that much of an inconvenience.
We both agree so thats good. I guess I am just a little more by the book than you are.
Uhh, if your referring to divx avi's than it is actually very wise to decompress your audio before encoding to mp2. This is very well documented by countless cases. I don't think that this is at all analogous to converting dat to mpg because using the divx audio as the direct audio source probably causes problems more often that not, at least in TMPGenc. -
So you tried it many times, got no problem at all, but still insist other people do it different ?, When the .mpg is extracted, it does not make it any more compliant that using a .dat. If the burning program complains about a .mpg it will also complain about a .dat and if necessary it may need further work as a .dat or .mpg
Its seams you spend more time reading articles that actually doing any conversions, it may be documented and there may be guides on saving out audio, but there again you seam to think its needed every time, when its not. TMPGEnc handles 99% of audio conversion without any problems at all.
I suggest you keep up with today's conversions, not by reading articles, but actually converting, and don't treat each movie the same each time you get one... They are not
And the same goes for the software your using, I guess your downloading shareware versions, as most new versions of ISO busters handle the latest CIF files, which you obviously did not know about. -
Kingjohn I think you need to learn to read posts more clearly.
I never insisted anyone do anything. I simply stated that loading a dat file into a program which wants an mpeg COULD cause a problem. Regardless of whether it EVER will or not it is still a generally idea to convert the dat to mpg simply because it takes almost no time to do it.
You are flat out wrong about the encoding of compressed audio in TMPGenc. Please do a forum search and you will see why. On this fourm alone there are probably close to a hundred people who have had this problem and each time it has been solved by decopressing the audio first. Just because you havent experienced this problem doesnt mean that countless other people havent.
Please go back and reread the post you are referring to about Isobuster. I SPECIFICALLY said that ISobuster will open the older versions of cif files but ONLY if created by Ez CD Creator NOT if created by I-Author. The same goes for WinISO. If you load the cif file it give back an error saying unsupported image format.
You need to practice what you preach. Maybe you should actually TRY opening an I-Author created cif file in either WinISO or ISOBuster because it DOES NOT WORK.
If you create a cif file in I-Author you have two options. You can burn it in Ez CD Creator or you can convert it to bin and cue using CDMage. No other program will be able to handle it. -
I have better things to do than argue with you
You need to download the right software to do the job, sorry if you dont have all the right tools 8) -
I assume you are again referring to Winiso, even though it has nothing to do with this thread. You might want to refer back to http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=101608 since apparantly you are the one with the wrong tools.[/url]
