  1. Hello,

i'm searching for a freeware-program for cutting MPEG1-movies. I tried MPEG-Scissors but the audio was not cutted exactely and you only can find the cutting-points by moving the slider. I'm searching for a program with preview-option with sound, loading mpeg1 and saving mpeg1, and the possibility to tab in the start and end time number by number. Has anyone an idea or a cheap program?

  2. There was no program, that fits my wishes. I want to load the mpeg1-video into the editor, cut it and save it as mpeg1-video without converting, rendering or other things that need to much time.
I'm searching for a fast, easy to use an exact program.

  3. Then you're pretty much out of luck. Editing mpeg-video always means rendering a new program stream, because anything else would result in a broken mpeg-stream. This process doesn't take that long anyway, so I'm not quite sure where you see the problem.

Personally I use TMPGEnc for editing my mpeg-files. It's not frame accurate, but generally it does its job well.

  4. Here's my problem :

I have recorded some old concert-videos from VHS in mpeg1 to burn VCD's.
And now i want to cut the concert into one film for every song in the concert to have the possibility to select the songs on the DVD-Player. And i also want to have the possibility to watch the whole concert at once without stops. Therefore i need a accurate cutting program, that cuts there, where i want it and also cuts the audio of the video at the same frame.

    Hi,

Try Myflix 3.0.5. Is the best for that.

I use it and I have perfect cut and joined files.
TMPGenc is another choice, under MPEGTools-> cut & join.

    Bye,
    Elimac

ps: I forgot to say that it is not freeware, but it is not very expensive either. You can find more details at http://www.mediawaresolutions.com/MyFlix.html

  6. No, you don't want to cut your mpg-file at all for that purpose.

Even if you manage to do frame-accurate cuts using Myflix, almost all DVD-players will cause a short gap between the individual tracks (even if you set the gap between tracks to zero), so this solution is less than ideal for a live concert.

Instead, leave your mpg-file as it is, create the VCD with VCDEasy (freeware, http://www.vcdeasy.org/)and use chapters/entry points. This way you will be able to jump from one song to the next, and it will play seamlessly if you let the concert run through.

VCDEasy does not have a built-in player, so what you will have to do in advance is to go through your mpeg-file in media player and write down the exact time at which each song starts. Use this list of times for entering entry points/chapters in VCDEasy, and you will get a perfect concert VCD.
