  1. I'm attempting to use the filters in virtualdub to avoid the long wait caused my tmpgenc and its filters. Where can i find the ideal settings in these filters since i've heard that too much or little of something can make the image worse. The image quality is a little less than half a dvd rip quality, so the filters are essential. I am assuming to use the sharpen, smoother, and motion blur filters. Would anybody with experience in this field care to make suggestions as to which filters should be applied, and at what settings?

I would have thought that each movie would need different settings according to what is needed. If someone was to post settings for one movie, they may be of no use at all for the one you have.

If its possible to transfer the movie to a VCD/SVCD/DVD without doing anything, you may find it looks a lot better using the power of a DVD player and TV.

Half DVD quality sounds good !!, do you really need to risk messing it up by applying filters ? which would take a lot of time to apply in Vdub anyway.

Have you tried it as it is, to see if it really needs more work ?. The trouble with filters, a section of the movie might need a little brightness, while other parts receiving the same treatment might spoil it.
