  1. fellas

    couple questions on wintv cards
i have had one in my pc for about year now and thought i should start utilizing it
my pc is running windows xp pro, 1.2 ghz and 60 gig hard drive
32 meg video card as well with lots of RAM

anyhow, I was wondering after doing some reading under the capture section on the left hadn column

what is the best program or software to run with the specs of my pc

I really want to record programs from my tv on my pc and eventually into vcd format

will this card allow me to do that

i did buy a splitter and some extra coax to run from there

    anything else I need?

    thanks in advance

this is possible, correct? to have tv appear on my pc and then record programs and put them on a cd?

  2. btwell, you might want to put the technical details in the "profile" section. And you might want to be more specific - is "lots of RAM" 256 meg, 512 meg, what? (I used to think 64 megs was "lots.") What brand of capture card are you using - including model? What are you planning to do with the video - VCD's, SVCD's, DVD's? These all matter.

  3. I have 512 megs or RAM in this pc
I do have another stick of 128 I can put in there if I need to

also I am not sure on the brand because I am not home right now, but will check on that

I basically want to be able to create vcd's from shows that appear on tv

    thanks in advance

If you have the basic WinTV PCI, it does not capture to mpeg1, so you need to capture to AVI. However there is a program from Hauppauge German site that lets you capture to Mpeg1 which I use with no problems.

    http://www.hauppauge.de/ > http://www.hauppauge.de/software.htm

    and here is the program
    NanoDVR - Software MPEG-1 Encoder für WinTV-PCI-Karten
    http://www.hauppauge.de/nanodvr.htm

If you have a diffrent model, you will find lots of updates on this site, more than the English site.

  8. All TV tuners have two modes, Cable and Air. If you're connected to a cable from a cable company, set the tuner to Cable. If you have rabbit ears, or your own outdoor antenna, set the tuner to Air. The tuner will then pick up whatever channels that are on the cable you connect to the TV card.

The audio goes from the audio OUT on the TV card, and then connected to the LINE input on your audio card. Then, you have to tell the TV tuner software that you're using the LINE input and turn up the volume on the LINE input on your audio card. When you get all of this correct, you will get audio from the TV tuner.

  10. I have bad experience with WinTV PVR PCI 889, if capturing videos from VCR or camcorder which has few video or audio signal lags/blank signal, it would produce awful results. I've asked those guys at Hauppauge's tech department, but all they said was just that 880 series were very sensitive to audio/video lags. That's it.Just like that, without any suggestions or advice as to how to solve these whole problems.I don't know about WinTV 250 series, but what could we expect from a company that left a buggy product still advertised on their website, without even notice the flaw, leave alone to withdraw it from the online shop ? Yes, we can post some questions in this forum, a good guy like SHS would help, but SHS is a volunteer and not the guy who was paid by Hauppauge to do this. And what about the 'official' guys at Hauppauge who were paid with our money when we buy Hauppauge's products ? Well, like I said, they won't give a damn if you have problems with your Hauppauge's products. At least that's what I experienced so far. So let's say that WinTV 250 has no problems 'yet' until now,but how about in the future if we find one, will this inconsistent and unprofessional company help sort things out ? I doubt that.
