  1. I have a mpeg that is 1.2gig and I am trying to split it in half to fit on 2 cd's. When I select the first half and run it (about 1 hour long) it stops at about 32 minutes. I read that I may have a bad spot that is stopping tmpgenc. Is there any way I can fix this problem. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the only way to fix that bad spot would be to load the mpeg back into TMPGEnc and re-encode it.

You could try the source range to encode just passed the error, but TMPGEnc might not let you split after the bad spot either.

  3. Could you tell me what steps I would take in TMPGEnc to reencode it? Sorry, I'm new to this whole thing. Thanks

Well I would first try and split the movie after the bad spot, to see if you can get past it, if that failed then you would need to re-encode all.

Just it the Browser for video source like you would if it was an AVI, then load a VCD template, and hit START

If you were able to get past the bad spot, you only need to re-encode just passed it, so hit the settings > advanced > source range

  5. Skip,
make a note of the frame number (or movie time) that Tmpegenc chokes at; under mpeg tools>cut&merge to split the file into two mpegs with
one ending just before the problem area and the other starting just
after. Later, if you can, go back to the missing source and reclaim
the error section. If you are using mpeg 1 this is easy with Virtual Dub (see guides on left hand side), however if using mpeg-2 you may
    have to frame serve.

What would the output in Vdub be then ? .AVI, not .mpg

Yes. A small avi file with the frame errors fixed that can be re-encoded
back to MPEG in just a few minutes. Once this is merged back between
the two original split files, under tmpegenc, the video is
back complete and error free (..or almost complete.)

    What with that?

Oh and this is for you-> hehe.

  11. Try running mpg file thru VCDgear with FIX ERRORS checked. I've had success with this when TMPGEnc choked on some files.

As for taxing: We here in Canada are close catching up to you Aussies.
