  2. Try the "how to...convert" link over on the left.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

What type of avi are you trying to encode? Is it DV, Dvix, MJPEG, etc?

  5. First: I have found the 'Convert' Link on the menu bar of this site to be a GREAT DEAL of Help. I suspect your answer lies somewhere in that section of the site, but you may be trying to skip some of the necessary research to accomplish your goal.

Second: I think you have a Divx or something. You'll probably need the right codec to convert it. Where did you get this AVI from? Is it something you captured yourself or found on the net?

There are never 2 problems the same

If your using TMPGENc try this

    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectDraw" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

  12. That info is also in the "How to...Newbie...TMPGEnc common problems" section:

    [urlhttp://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems[/url]

It's the first item on the page, as a matter of fact.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  13. Hey King John, Can you help me. I am trying to convert a Divx file to MPEG-1 (VCD) with TMPGEnc. It plays fine in Win Media Player. It also will convert in TMPEGEnc with non-VCD settings (ie DVD). But when I try to encode it with regular VCD settings I get an error message but only about the audio. Any ideas?

  14. Woodie..use this method by extracting the audio as a WAV first then encoding using resulting WAV as audio source.

    Hi

Sometimes TMPGEnc will complain about the type of audio contained in the AVI, sometimes the audio is an AC3 codec, usually from DVD rips. Sometimes its simply a variable bit rate, or a non standard bit rate MP3. You have to treat each type differently.

Mostly it is a simple matter of saving out the Audio in Vdub "Uncompressed" and usually at the same frequency you need for a VCD (44.1Khz). How this is achieved my vary, and people are posting lots of methods.

I personally only use Vdub, TMPGEnc for making VCD's no other software. Occasionally if the audio is low, I will load it into Gold wave to maximize or possibly make a mono file into a stereo file. I never use any other software to process the Audio from one type to another.

When you load the AVI into Vdub, it may immediately complain about the audio, it may tell you what the problem is, and may tell you to save out the whole AVI using full processing mode on both Audio and video to fix the problem. You would need to save out the AVI uncompressed, so that takes a little time, so most people only save out the problem part, which in this case is the audio.

    Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > Conversion > 44.1khz (No other changes)
    SAVE WAV

This saves out the audio uncompressed, and at the same time converts to 44.1khz (What's needed for VCD)

Most of the time this can be done without problems, then later you can use the uncompressed WAV with TMPGEnc. However some people are having problems with this in Vdub, and so are using another method.

    Audio > Direct stream copy
    SAVE WAV

You have now saved the audio out "As is" and now need to decompress it later with another program, before it can be used with TMPGEnc . This method I have never used so cannot comment on any other program needed to do this. (I'm sure others will)

I have installed an old copy of the Nimo codec pack, plus some MP3 codec's from www.goldwave.com and probable some original DivX codec's, the machine has not had a fresh install for almost a year, so have lost track on what my be needed to convert AC3 to uncompressed WAV, the next time I get an AVI with AC3, I will try to find out what codec is in use on a machine that has no codec's...

    Hope this helps...
