If the audio track in the DivX is already 44100Hz ,Mpeg layer3,2ch stereo do I still need to uncompress it when cutting the Divx using Virtual Dub. Can I just cut the DivX in half and convert the half as is? Thanx in advance

  2. You can try and it may well work fine, but to avoid various problems with audio sync and quality it is generally accepted that uncompressing the audio with vdub before encoding with TmpGenc is more reliable than not doing so.

Oops... If your going to cut the DivX in half, then later you would save out the audio in each half not before you cut it.

Unless Vdub complains about the audio, its not necessary to save it out. Bypassing Vdub and going Straight to TMPGEnc is not recommended, as you may have a audio problem that needs to be saved before use.

Most people save the WAV uncompressed at 44.1Khz without caring if its needed or not, since it don't take very long to do anyway, and does speed up the encoding in TMPGEnc as the audio does not need to be decompressed before conversion.
