Hello, I am capturing with an AIW Radeon card with ATI MMC 7.6. I capture at 480x480 at 2.4Mbps. when I do this and burn it to a vcd the picture is watchable but it has little boxes thoughout the picture. It would be painful to watch this for a half hour. Any ideas. Thanks

Are you capturing straight to VCD mpeg. For the best quality capture to AVI first using huffy compression. Then use TMPGEnc to convert your captured AVI to a VCD compliant MPEG.
This method requires a lot of temporary hard drive space for the AVI file, but you will achieve a much better looking VCD.

Make sure you use IBBP and set motion estimation to 100% when you create your custom preset in MMC (P=4, B=2).
If you do I-frame only 480x480 @ 2.4Mbps it will look like crap no matter what encoder you're using.
Better yet, download the MMC 7.7 upgrade. It has a preset for compliant SVCD captures. -
Thanks. I downloaded 7.7 and captured with the SVCD setup but the picture when I burned it was fine in the scenes with little movement but bad (blocky and at times in slow motion) when there was more movement. Any ideas. Thanks. My DVD player is a JVC 500BK and should work fine. Thank you.
