I am trying to load an .avi file in TMPGEnc and it reads:
'File "C:\Project\186.avi" can not open, or unsupported'
I've downloaded all the codecs, as well as try to ascend the priority of the DirectShow Filter. All these attempts to no avail. I would like to know if there's anyway I can fix this problem, or if there are any other strategies. I'm not sure if this is the problem but the file's fps is 14.985

Provided the movie is not a fake
You have not installed all the codec's. Try the Nimo Codec pack.

There is nothing that wont load into TMPGEnc, however try loading it into Vdub, see if it tells you something about the movie.
Try file > File information at leased find out what type of movie you have -
this is what is says about the movie from virtual dub
frame size 352x288
12,500 fps
divx 5.01x codec compressor
number of key frames 330
audio 24000 HZ
channels 2 stereo
sample precision 0 bit
fraunhoffer IIS MGEG LAYER 3 CODEC
anything catch your eye here that may be causing the problem -
It is diffrent from most
The only thing that stands out is the DivX 5.01, last Nimo release does not have this.
You can download the DivX 5 from here http://www.divx.com/
Latest version: 5.0 Alpha 2 (released 2002-06-13). I guess this is a spywear vertion, so you need to look around for a hacked DivX Pro 5.0.2
Divx 4.12 Build 307 (Project Mayo) was the last release before this became comercial, older DivX 5 movies could be played with it but not converted.
