I have a 282MB, 29.97 fps mpg that I am trying to cut and join, to take the commercials out of. The mpg itself plays fine and looks fine, but when I try to cut it in VirtualDub or TMPGEnc, a sync problem occurs in the new file. No combinations of compressions or framerate changes are fixing this problem. Please help!

my main problem is that the mpg plays just fine, with not sync problems whatsoever, but I can't edit it.

The mpeg could have vbr audio, be a hybrid or have frame speed
changes throughout. If any of the above, you will have to convert
it to AVI or re-stream to diff mpeg settings before you can
cut & paste. Or if you have a copy of Director, just import it
into that, edit, and export.
You could try some of the editing programs in the
tools section
