Started to burn VCD-s recently.
Capturing successfully VHS-C using Ulead VideoStudio6. Editing with VS6. Rendering to 60 min "movie" with or without added soundtrack. Burned VCD with VS6's DVD Plug-in. Selected burning speed 12x (lowest available). Plays OK on the Pioneer DV 434 standalone player.
No blocking and minimal vibrating lines on the rendered movie viewed on the PC.But strong blocking and vibrating lines on the burned VCD (played back on the Pioneer). Blocking is the strongest at the start (inside of disk) and tapers off slowly as played. The such derived VCD is way worse than the original VHS-C tape which was not to good to start with (as any VHS is). I use Memorex CD-R 24x but problems exist with other disks as well.
Could, please, anyone direct me to the relevant literature about those problems? Also any advise to improve will be greatly appreciated.
Note: I am using Ulead VideoStudio6 with the supplied DVD Plug-in, this programs suppose to do all what I need (capturing, editing video as well as sound, rendering and finally burning the VCD) and I prefer to stay with a single program.

You say the VCD plays ok on the stand-alone but then you have blocking problems?
Your problem is probably caused by write errors as the CD is being burned. Your encoded mpg is fine it seems. (S)VCD uses Mode 2 formatting which has much less error correction/handling than normal data CD.s. This is why you can fin 740Mb on a 74minute CD. In other forums they suggest slowing down your writing speed (i.e. the faster you write the more errors). This is highly dependant of your hardware. For instance I have never had a problem.
Unfortunately you save you are writing at the slowest your software will allow! Further I don't use your software.
I suggest you search the forums for similar problems by other users. Otherwise try other media or other software to burn the encoded VCD. -
It is obvious that the problem is in the actual burning of the VCD.
Ulead VS6 DVD Plug-in allows the selection of burning speed from 1 to 24 but even if I specify any low number it writes at 8x speed. Why?
Over a year ago I glanced at a rather large literature about my problems (blocking etc.) I could not find it recently, I wish I could take another look esp. with some recent updates. New softwares, new updates are available since.
Also I would like to investigate other than VCD (like SVCD, XVCD etc) short of DVD. My selection of VCD was due that VHS is also of low resolution, as a matter of fact, the same as VCD, so would my disk quality improve with those? Also playing of the disk with a standalone DVD player is a major factor. Please advise. -
Hello;
Lot of views and only one reply?
Am I in the wrong forum? Should I post in another one?
