I'm making a capture using Vdub from my analog camcorder. How can I minimize the file size without losing noticeable quality?

For example, does it have to capture in pure uncompressed avi file??? Why can't there be software that could basically capture in DV format like a DV camcorder???

  2. You can use the huffyuv codec which uses a lossless compression technique.

  3. Picvideo's MJPEG and lossless JPEG are used by many
with excellent results & you can achieve good
    compression ratio's. http://www.jpg.com

Thanks guys, I'll check it out. If DV from a DV camcorder gives 5 to 1 compression ratio, should I try 5:1 with this Picvideo software???

  5. A quality setting of 18 is the most popular (I disremember the ratio).
If you do a search, the picvideo codecs can be cracked without
paying the small fee they now ask (it used to be free.)

    Cool this sounds consistent with:

Can someone give a somewhat accurate comparison to DV? For example is 18 quality setting comparable to DV???
