  1. Does anyone know I easy path to make VCD-karaoke from .KAR or .ST3 files? Someone, somewhere suggested to capture video output using a video card with a RGB (or SVHS) output. Does anyone know a easy way to screen capture directly to AVI? Better then this would be a karaoke player that could save output as AVI. Is there such a thing?

Can't help you there, but I could propose much better VCD karaoke solution.

The best way to karaoke on VCD is to download real karaoke CD+G & MP3 files, not KAR midi files. The audio is more accurate, and the overlays are already in the video section. You convert the video using a freeware proggy called CDG2AVI, then convert the AVI to VCD or SVCD, stick it in Nero and add a menu. Voila!

Get a newsreader and search for binary groups with "karaoke" in them. CDG2AVI is on the net somewhere.

I guess I should write a guide about this. Don't see these topics too often though...

  3. Thank you, Marsmayhem, I thought making somenthing like that, but MP3 and and CDG files are very difficult to find. We could make them sincronizing lyrics over original song, but it's a hard work By the other side there is plenty of .KAR and .ST3. We can download every song we want.

PS: I get excellent sound from midi files connecting my PC to an externel synth (keyboard) and then connecting it to PC-Sound In.

CD+G/MP3 newsgroups have tons of the stuff in them. If you're looking for anything specific, post a request. There's at least one or two floods a week. I'm sure you'd be able to find anything you're looking for. Do you know what newsgroups and newsreaders are?

MIDI may be good enough for you now, but you'll miss out on stuff like backing vocals for example. And anyone I've ever shown MIDI karaoke to has been less than impressed - and honestly, myself included. Compared to the real stuff, the stuff they use in clubs, which is CDG, there's little comparison.

It's not hard at all. I have tons of the stuff but not the time to convert them all to VCD format. And I only browsed the relevant newsgroups over a period of a few weeks, downloading here and there.

If you're determined to capture screen output, you could try something like Camtasia or Hyperscan - they'll capture a window's output to AVI format.

    Good luck, either way...

  5. Hi Mars Mayhem,

I've forgotten to say: I'm brazilian, and I would like to make VCD-karaoke from brazilian songs. That is why is difficult to find them. I've never tried to syncronize MP3+lyrics (and cut off vocal) by myself. What is the best way to make CDG from a MP3?

    Thanks again.

Ah, that changes things a bit then

Creating CDG from MP3? Probably something like CDG Creator, or is it called Studio. Not sure. A Google search should point you in the right direction.

    Good luck!
