  1. I am using VirtualDub to edit out commericials in a capture. Before I start the editing I play the movie and it looks great. I start Virtualdub and set the audio and video for "Direct stream copy". Then I open video file. I and start deleting the commericials. I play in virtualdub just to make sure the video looks ok. I then make sure that direct stream copy is still marked on both, then I save as avi and name the file and it runs. It takes about 30 minutes or so for a 45 minute avi. I then play the edited avi and the video gets blury with movement and it then stops and says unable to read file. File unreadable. Something like that. Did I miss a setting
Also note that I captured with Virtualdub 720x480 48hz and compressed using huffyuv
    Thanks

I just had something similar happen today. I split a 1.4 gig avi into
2 parts. Previewed both to edit out bad frames and then did a Direct Stream
copy. I played the first part with no problem. The second part had a
similar msg to yours and it turns out that the first few frames were bad
on part 2. I deleted them and did the stream again and it played fine.
When you preview your file in Virtual Dub check the messages at the
very bottom left hand corner. It will tell you if it found bad frames, at
least when I am previewing the file with the arrow key. It maybe
    different while playing the file.

Give it a try and Goodluck!

  3. Thanks for the reply. What its doing is when I go into editing the avi (removing the commericai;s) I go thru the steps. Direct stream for audio and video and I go thru and remove the commericals then I save as avi. It finishes. Then I play it with media player then it errors about 1 minute in. (Around the spot where I removed the first commericial.) I went ahead and converted to DVD NTSC in TMPGEnc and when I viewed it the video looks great and it plays all thru, except I loose audio a minute or so into it then it picks up again towards the end of the movie, but it starts there where it stopped. But the audio plays thru even after the video ended. I thought I read somewhere that there was a setting to lock the video and audio, but I can't find it. The audio is not a wav, its all avi. Its driving me crazy. I hope someone could share some light on this.

    Thanks

That sounds like....a little beyond my experience. Sorry. I am
currently having trouble myself with video/audio sync in an asf
    that I converted to avi.
Did you check the guides on here? Or the FAQ's? I have found alot of
useful ideas using the search function in the forum. Although they have
not fixed my problem just yet I have saved the hardest ones for last.

    Goodluck.

  6. buy a new pc???

    just kidding...

Have you tried to extract the audio by using the full processing mode?
What you also can do is find a nice video editing program (TMPGEnc got cutting and merging features ) and cut and merge your avi file. Just decompress it and try to cut the commercials afterwards...
It is just a suggestion (i have not that many skills of video editing either)
