I capture family movies from my Sony camcorder and capture this onto my PC using Pinnacle Studio 7 (Full DV). I use TMPGEnc 2.53 to convert the DV to SVCD but in high motion scenes, there seems to be some ghosting and artifacts appear. I load the SuperVideoCD.mcf template and use the following advanced settings:
- Rate Control Mode: 2-pass (VBR/VBR)
- Encode mode: Interlace
- Motion search precision: highest quality (very slow)
- Source aspect ratio: 4:3 635 lines (PAL)
- other settings as default
Are there any other settings I can set to get rid of this blockiness in high motion scenes? I use Nero 5.5.7.2 to burn to CD-Rs and normally play them on a standalone DVD player. Any suggestions will be most welcome.

The only way to reduce blockiness is to increase the bit rate. However, the max bit rate for SVCD is 2520, which is what the template is set to. So, you can eighter make a DVD with a bit rate much higher, like 4000Kb/sec, or knock down the resolution to 352x480 and still make a SVCD. You can also try to deinterlace your video and encode it as non-interlaced. You will loose a little bit of vertical resolution, but the blockiness should improve.
