    Hi,
I have been trying to figure out how to make better pictures capturing from my analog camcorder. when burning the captured mpeg2 to dvd I get terrible resoulution. Isnt dvd suppose to be better than VCD. Here is what I'm doing:

capturing from camcorder using AIW 8500 (composite)
making an avi file with pinnacle ( cant figure how to do this with MMC)
    converting to mpeg with TMPGE
burning with pioneer ao4 to dvd

the picture looks better when I play it on my TV. On the dvd it looks kinda blurred and distorted. What am I doing wrong. should I use another program?
Often people fall short, not because they have tried and failed, but because the fear of failure kept them from trying at all

  2. Maybe you should check your dvd-burning software settings. I'm not sure if I'm right, but from an analog source you can only get as large resolution picture as 352x288. And if the burning program then resizes it much...it gets blurry...?

I would suggest that you try using VirtualDub or AVI_IO to capture an AVI file at DVD resolution. The guide below shows you how to do this with the Pegasus MJPEG codec and then convert with TMPGEnc afterwards.

Many people on the site use this method and it will give you much better quality than the method you are using at the moment.
