Hi,
Am in the process of creating my first VCD. I originally captured it
at a resolution of 512 x 384 (NTSC) in VirtualDub, then passed it
through VirtualDub and Nandub to clean it up and then add the
compressed audio back in. The next step is to convert my finished AVI
to MPEG using TMPGEnc. The question is, I can't seem to convert the
file into a resolution greater than 320 x 240. Is there something I'm
missing? Assume I know nothing. This is all new to me!
You may have seen this post in rec.video.desktop... Sorry, still haven't resolved this issue and would like to get as many opinions as possible.
Also wondering: Should a live action TV show (45 minutes) from VHS be captured at 640 x 480 or is it best to stick to 512 x 384? Does it make any difference?
Thanks!
Aimee

In TMPG load up your desired template for your output then load your source clips.
Load button is in lower right corner.
Also see under CONVERT to the left.~~~Spidey~~~

512x384 is not a televison standard, so it should not be a capture format. The vertical resolution sets the format and aspect ratio. NTSC is 240 or 480 and PAL is 288 and 576. If you capture any other resolutions, the video has to be converted to get the correct TV format.
Normal capture resolutions for NTSC is 352x240, 352x480, and 704x480.
(The widescreen Divx crap is messing people up when they want to convert it to a TV format. Divx files does not have the correct aspect ratio, nor the correct pixel size. Capture the video in legal mpeg-2 format, and it will be ready to be burned for TV) -

Personally, I would not choose an NTSC template for a PAL source. The resolution is not a problem. The framerate difference is.
Any resolution can be accomodated by choosing Source aspect ratio=1:1(VGA) and Video arrange method= Full screen(Keep aspect ratio). -

Any option you choose with *keep aspect ratio* will not involve stretching. It just depends how much of the original you want to see. 8)
