Anyone here know anything about the Cendyne DVD recorder?
A local store has it in full retial box with software for under $250.
Is it a rebox of pioneer or some other make drive?
I think I am ready to make teh leap from VCD to DVD, but cost is a factor.
What about hardware/software that will let you record direct to DVD on your computer, or is that NOT available, yet??

I'm not sure about the DVD recorders but their CD-RW drives are reboxed from various makers. I found some CenDyne 8x8x32 at my local Office Max for $20 bucks so I bought a couple and they are Teac drives. Teac CD-W58E to be exact.

I've got a 32x cendyne CD-RW drive, called the Lightning II.It's a lite-on drive. It seems to be pretty good so far, except the lowest speed It can write at is 8x.Which kinda sucks that I don't have the option to write at lower speeds like 4x.

I bought a Cendyne DVD-R/RW writer in April at MicroCentre in Dallas. It is a Pioneer DVR-A03, and at the time was $499 with a $50 rebate. It says Pioneer on the front of the unit itself and on the labels on the drive. As I recall, even the box had all the Pioneer labeling. The software that came with it is on a Pioneer-labeled CD. Only the store receipt and inventory label said Cendyne (and I received the rebate). It seemed weird to me at the time, so I asked two people who worked at the store who assured me it was a Pioneer, just re-sold by Cendyne.

Most of all the new Cendyne CD-RW drives (from 24x and higher) are all LiteOn OEM drives.
Since the newer CD-RW drives are "High Speed" classed, they don't allow burning at lower than 8x. That would defeat their whole purpose of "We Are High Speed Burners Idea".
Cendyne DVD-RWs are soo cheap because they are basically the Pioneer DVR-104 OEM unit. The Retail unit will actually say DVR-A04. But the OEM and Cendyne units will come up as DVR-104 in system BIOS or your OS Device Manager.
And To Star Warrior:
Yeah, I see Cendyne DVD-RWs for under 250. Usually around $200~250 around where I'm at. Software is out there. I'm not familiar with UDF file system softwares....but stuff like Nero 5.5.9.0 is capable of doing UDF on a DVD-R so you are safe to say that software is available. I haven't had much problems with my DVR-104 except with my trial and error process. Anywho, that's another story for another time.
