  1. I recently began converting my home videos to .avi using a Dazzle* box. I then converted to MPEG 1 using TMPGnc and got the video/audio mismatch that so many others have reported here. After searching previous reports and trying the reported fixes, I still have the same problem. I have tried using Virtualdub at different sampling rates when trying to use a .wav format and used the audio gap correct function in TMPGnc when using either .avi or .wav audio functions. I can get the video and audio to match for a brief period of time, but the audio always plays a little slower and soon the mismatch occurs. I know this problem has been posted in several other threads and yes, I have read and tried them, but to no avail. I have spent many hours on this and am now posting out of sheer frustration.......Any reponses by those successful in correcting this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

  2. Does the audio gradually drift out of sync as the movie plays, i.e. getting further out of sync the further you go into the movie. If so it could be caused by a mismatch of framerates between your source avi and the mpg file you are encoding to. Check the framerate of your source AVI and ensure you encode using a template that has the same framerate (or re-capture at the correct framerate, then encode)

    Hope this helps

  3. Bugster,
    Thanks for the reply. Yes, the audio drifts out of sync as the movie plays. There is also a large audio gap delay that I have corrected to +2500 msec. The drift happens fairly quickly, within a minute or so. I am using a framerate of 30.030 fps with an audio sampling rate of 44.1 MHz. I have also tried other varying sampling rates without success. Finally, I have tried all of these various combinations using the .avi for an audio source, converting to a .wav first, or even using the created MPEG 1 and re-capturing the whole thing trying to get an audio/video match. I am willing to try anything including purchasing any necessary software, as long as my home movies don't end up looking like Friday night kung-fu flicks. Any and all recommendations are appreciated.

    Thank you,

  4. I am using a framerate of 30.030 fps
    that could well be a part of your problem. Why can't you capture at one of the standard framerates

    NTSC = 29.97fps
    NTSC (film) = 23.97 fps
    PAL = 25Fps.

    converting an avi that has one of these framerates to a mpeg1 with a matching framerate eliminates many audio sync issues.

    If you do this and your audio is still out by a fixed amount at the beginning (but the amount doesnt change) then it is probably your capture software/process that is at fault. But this can be easily fixed within vdub.
