Did you read the newbie guides, yet? Be careful, though, they are addictive. I did not know that when I first started out myself (still a newbie here). So now I spend all my free time here. So start there.
Hello. -
Skinrod, do you have the same capture card as me ? WinTV 2000 PCI basic?
Well If you do, then a 400Mhz computer might not be enough power for the type of capture you are trying. You don't say what that is, the size you are trying to capture might be too large for your machine, you should lower this until you get good results.
You say its a WinTV PCI, so I guess it has no mpeg capture straight to mpeg1 for VCD, if this is correct then you can download the mpeg1 capture program for your card from this site;
http://www.hauppauge.de/sw_pci.htm look for the program called nanoDVR Realtime Capture, its a good program.
As for the sound, if you have a mono card, try moving the audio balance to the left channel and make a recording, then move it to the right channel and do the same thing, you can do that with Windows volume control.
To put the video onto VHS tape, you need video out, the basic WinTV card does not have that
