  1. hi,

i got a little problem. i want to convert a video with TMPGEnc so that i can upload it to a homepage. i just wana upload short samples of a movie. the quality should be either 192X144 or 352X288 (PAL); everythings works out fine so far. but if i change the rate control to a CBR of lets say 300kbps, the file still has the same size like before. i want a setting that lets me produce files taht have like 1.5 to 2 MB per minute.

    can someone pleasehelp me??

    thx,

  2. for example: i got a file that is97 seconds long; no matter what i try, the file size stays 16.155kb... i tried converting from uncompressed *.avi as well as from compressed. it must be possible to produce a file that is about 2.5MB. i know it's possible cause i made a file of 30 seconds which is 800kb. why won't tmpgenc let me change the file size no more? what am i doing wrong??

    thx,

    ksk

  4. Not many people know that MPEG1 is quite scalable.
If you have a very long GOP like 1 I frame, 1 B frame and 49 P frames then it will be IBPBPBPBPBPBPBPB...up to 100 frames.
The load sharing of each B gets passed to the next P so theres little dependancy.
B frames are bidirectional so you dont want them back to back as they will carry thier behaviour along the timeline, better to have a P remind them of what the last I looked like.
With a long GOP you must have a uniform Quantize Matrix...try filling every space on the grid with 8, ensuring not too much data is discarded.
160x120 @25fps is possible at bitrates of 64kbps and they still look good.

  5. Download the free copy of Windows Media Encoder, it is made for internet video at low bit rates, and will perform better than mpeg-1 at very low bit rates.
