There is a real time mpeg encorder, Mediostream Campeg RT and neoDVD.
I downloaded the Campeg RT trial version. This program encode DV to mpeg2 for DVD in real time ( need 1.1 GHz) or near real time for Pent III 700 Mhz. You can either encode live from Firewire or from Hard Drive. I was impressed with the mpeg quality (direct from my Canon Elura). Looks very good with no blockiness. It does an excellent job despite the source being from a handheld camcorder.

Their other product is called NeoDVD.
This one will encode and burn DVD on CD (mini DVD)or to DVD-R at the same time !. Neo DVD can also encode from hard drive and you can do chapters and simple split of the AVI DV, QT or mpeg files. With this program you do not get mpeg files, instead you get the DVD video-TS and audio_ts files. The Campeg RT produces mpeg2 and need DVD authoring tools.
This NeoDVD is just released and can be downloaded for $99.

The NeoDVD pro ( coming Dec 01 ) can do titles and transitions.

Check out Mediostream at http://www.mediostream.com.

I am going to download the neoDVD and will let you know my experience with it.

P.S. I sound like a Mediostream saleman, but I am not, just an excited fan !.
