  1. After reading the posts regarding the MMC 7.7 from Ati, I am not sure if I should upgrade due to some problem with 7.7 for SVCD for some people. Will the picture and audio quality be better after installing 7.7? Is it worth their effort?

I just installed MMC 7.6 from 7.1 last week but did not get the chance to check for the problem but seemed most people are pleased with it.

I'm not sure if I keep 7.6 but would like to hear your thought before I make the decision.

    Thanks, Bob

  2. I intend holding on to version 7.6 as I don't see any real improvements for 7.7 and don't want any hassle with upgrades that don't work (an ATI speciality!) There is a substantial difference between 7.2 and 7.6 but seems to be very little between 7.6 and 7.7.

  3. MMC 7.7 has SVCD setting and 48hz audio setting, but is very buggy.

  4. 7.7 is working well for me.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

Don't upgrade to 7.7 if you have Radeon 64DDR ViVo. There is a known bug (acknowledged by ATI) that keeps you from retaining custom capture profiles and doesn't provide the built in SVCD capture setting. Who knows when ATI will fix it, I wouldn't wait around...

How can you check what codec you're using?? I have a ATI AIW Radeon 8500DV. Any tips how to optimize to reduce any frame drops?? I have a pretty good system (check my comp. details).

Is it true that passing through a DV camcorder gives better captures?

A great post on such concerns is on the below thread:

Well, much has been written about MMC7.1, an finally I've got my Radeon 64 VIVO to work with the help from this forum. Many thanks to "Sulik"! For those who like to know how, follow this tread: http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=98089
Quite simple when you know how, but is ATI able to sort it out???

Could someone tell me a little more about the ATI MMC software? Is it a capture program? I'v only captured a few things (analog camcorder) with my ATI AIW Radeon 8500DV and I had to use VirtualDub to get the uncompressed files above 4 gigs.

Will the MMC software minimize dropped frames during captures??

  9. I think 7.6 has a better picture when you play it back so if you want SVCD stick with 7.6. 7.7 is very blocky and I do not like it. You can still do DVD with 7.6 just have to recode the audio with TMPG or MPEG2VCR. 7.7 you do not have to recode any thing but your picture will not look that good after two capture's i have to reboot my PC so I can capture more. I use the Dazzle 2 all the time but i do not think when I had 7.6 it had to reboot it as much may be ever 5 capture or so. If your not doing DVD then there no bother with 7.7

Rokkis, you're right. I got mine to work too (sorta). I've had some other issues, and I think it's because of all the uninstall/reinstall attempts. It's easy to do (the manual copying to get 7.7 to work), but has anyone been able to do some lengthy testing to verify that all is truly well? (I couldn't because of these other problems).

  11. I haven't noticed any degradation in quality with MMC 7.7 - What settings were you using ?

I noticed however a big improvement in the quality of non-interlaced captures (7.6 didn't mark the frames as interlaced, and it was definitely more blocky)

I would personally recommend using 7.7 unless you have the VIVO version (although you can manually copy the missing file for the VIVO - but I would think this should be fixed soon, since it's a problem with the web install)
