  1. I get absolutely no sound when using this program. Have tried dozens of .avi files. No sound in finished MPEG, no sound when "previewing", no sound at all. Any suggestions?

    you need to extract the audio from the avis first. To do this, use Virtualdub
    http://www.virtualdub.org

    open the avi in it
    then select <save wav> (12th option down)

    then use the newly created wav as the audio source in tmpgenc.
