I'm looking for a good capture device that can put video onto my Pc and make vcds.
But I'm torn between 2 devices-The Dazzel Digital Video Creator:

And the USB instant DVD:

They both cost the same at $150.So far I'm leaning more toward the USB instant DVD.

The Instant DVD has mostly good reviews BUT I would never buy a USB product for video. USB was not made for transferring large files or video files. I can only recommend a card that goes inside your computer known as video capture PCI cards or a firewire/1394 solution. Go with the DVD Station by Dazzle at $299 it is a brand new product not on their web site. Buy a $50 Firewire/1394 card for your computer if you don't have one. You will thank me in the long run. It's a mistake to think USB products are video solutions. Maybe next year when a new USB v. 2.0 port becomes common in many products it may be worth of consideration.
Can't afford it? wait a little until you can. Prices keep dropping and quality gets better. -
Take it from one who spent 6 months trying to get the ADS IDVD to work right, the product has MANY, MANY problems. Bad SVCD quality, can't cut the files without losing audio sync. Poor audio quality. Stay FAR away from this product!

maybe the budget USB solutions are no good, but i bought the Win TV PVR USB, and capturing from the TV is very good quality. The external unit has an MPEG 2 Encoder which handles the processing, so if you are recording it probably isnt possible to watch it, but the recording is perfect. if the A/V stream had to be sent to the PC for processing then i would think it would cause a problem, also i know PC card would probably produce slightly better results this is not however the case with this unit

Good evening guys,
again, transfering "video" USB isn't really so bad. Not when their is a
decoder chip in between.
What you mistaken in or missunderstanding with these USB devices is AVI.
yes, if a USB unit was capturing/converting to AVI, then yes, USB is
a bottleneck, BUT, when the device is a:
Section A:
video signal --> MPEG-2 chip --> USB --> to harddrive, their is NO
or should not be any sluggishness or framedrops of whathave you cause
only a small amount of data is being sent to the harddrive, NOT a large
AVI stream of data, but a very small MPEG-2 stream.
You're confusud with this analogy:
Section B:
video signal --> USB --> to harddrive, this setup will give you
lots of trouble! This is not recommended.
I hope I helped to finally clear up this misconception of USB capture
devices - - again, look at Section A: to clear up the matter.

get the Dazzle 2 pci card also go to http://stop.at/dazzle2 to see if your mother board will work with it
