  1. Ok all, hate to have to ask yet another question, but someone here will be able to answer this, I am sure...

What I have - SVCD Mpeg file made from DVD2SVCD using CCE. This mpeg fits on a single cd and is a 50 minute TV show.

What I want - the mpeg does not have chapters, but does have black space where commercials are to be placed. I want to break the mpeg into chapters where each black space is.

What I have tried - everything - all the tools listed on this site, nothing seems to work. TMpeg will cut it, but it leaves about 5 - 8 seconds of video after the spot where I wanted the cut. I would try M2 Edit Pro but I do not have access to that application.

Any ideas? I thought the easiest method would be to split the Mpeg via cuts into 4 or 5 smaller mpegs and place them in sequence on an SVCD via Nero. Is there a way to do this?

Is there any way to view the individual frames on an svcd mpeg?

    Thanks all, much appreciated.

  2. Try adobe premiere 6.0.
U can download it from adobe, it's a full functional trial for 30 days.
There is a crack for it available in net too.
    good luck.

I tried premiere - it said the file format was invalid. What do I need to install to get it to work? I would love to do this kind of work with Premiere!

    Thanks,

    BR

Oops - one thing I should mention is that I will only do this chapter edit if it it does not result in the loss of any of the quality of the mpeg! Thanks.

You could just cut them in TMPG. See Cut/Edit. Load clip and select your ranges, rename the oputput and it will edit and remultiplex...

Make sure you've selected the SVCD Mpeg 2 template to cut with. Also, it sounds as if you're burning possibly with Nero. Have you turned off the default 5 second track pause before burning your disc ?

If not, right click clips, and choose properties, then change 5 to 0 , OK....

  5. TMpeg was the first thing I tried, but the cut does not work. It doesn't cut where I tell it to, it cuts and leaves 5-10 seconds of video after the point where I wanted it cut. This is on the mpeg prior to burning to an svcd.

    Thanks for the info, though.

  6. try mpg2avi or capture in avi format if u don't have the codec for mpeg2.
in adobe u should use standart dv project for max quality.
    export the video to file.
    burn the disk.
    good look

  7. have you tried VCDEasy? You can add chapters without cutting the mpeg.
Look in the guides section for instructions on how to do this.

  8. I did try VCDEasy because it sounded like exactly what I needed. First, it told me I had a DAT file and not a true MPG so I used the CDX tool in VCDEasy to convert it. Then, when I tried to build the bin file, it told me the mpeg was invalid at the end - kind of gave up.

Is this a DAT file because it was pulled off of an existing SVCD? Would the original mpeg file built by DVD2SVCD be a true mpeg? If so, I can use it - I still have a copy of it at home.

    Thanks for the input,

    BR

  9. I tried VCDEasy again, and it got all the way to the end of creating the bin file and gave me the message "Invalid mpeg packet found at packet #279077 -- please fix this mpeg file" and quit removing the bin and cue file.

Not sure what to try next...

  10. hey fellas....just a few q's on cutting with TMPGEnc....

    1. when i chop, say, the last part of a movie off (in this case i cut off the credits to get the filesize down hopefully), the resulting shorter movie had a greater filesize...why?? i don't understand

    original mpeg size: 927 Mb
    mpeg w/out credits: 1,132 Mb <----- AAAHHHH!!!!

    2. the resulting movie's time is off by about a minute. when i go to 1hr:50 min in the original movie, that takes me right to the first credit page, but in the cut movie, which was cut to show that first credit page, i go to 1hr:50min and the characters are still talking and we miss the last minute or so of an imporant monologue.

anyone experience any of this stuff before?? i'm concerned because when i get back to work today (where i have access to tons of dvds and a 1.3ghz athlon to rip/encode them with ) i have a file that should be about 1600 megs waiting for me, and i want to cut it into two 800 meg files, but if TMPGEnc is going to beef up the filesize... hmmm ... ya know??

thanks for any help...if it were'nt for you epxerts i don't think any of us new guys would have stuck with this hobby....personally i'm ready to just start buying the stinkin dvd's 8)
