I'm stumped.I'm capturing from HI-8 using vdub. There seems to be no problem with the capture. It plays back fine in vdub. When I play it back in Windows MediaPlayer, it plays fine if I play it from the beginning. But if I move the video position forward, I loose the audio. If I convert to VCD (using tmpeg) the audio becomes a hiss at the point where I loose the audio in WMP, whether I play it back in WMP or burn it to a cd and paly it in my stand-alone DVD. However, if I use vdub to extract the audio as a WAV and use that file as the audio in tmpeg when converting to vcd, all is fine. The audio capture is at 44/16/stereo. I hate spending the extra time extracting to WAV and I'm afraid that it may result in A/V sync. Also, since I have about 35 two hour tapes to process, I'm hoping there is a simple answer. Thanks in advance for your help.

actually saving as wav is the best solution. vdub, although it is a great program, does not handle audio very well. Saving as wav not only bypasses this, it also helps with sync problems. Many people have a hard time encoding an avi that has audio and video multiplexed together (sync problems, no audio ect) in tmpgenc, and the best solution is to demux it. I also do this with my captures (mjpeg with 44/16/stereo). After i capture it, i load it up in vdub and <save wav>, and i have never had a sync problem ever.

Thanks for the reply. I guess you get what you pay for and that I'm doing the best I can with the least $$ output. Too bad, I thought vdub had it all.
btw, can you capture directly to wav or do you have to convert after capture (as I did)? -
you can't capture directly to wav. The only thing you can do is reopen it and save to wav. I usually do a lot of extra work with my video files so it helps me to go ahead and save it to wav and get it out of the way.
