I'm thinking of buying a dvd writer and would like to know if it's possible to back up my collection of original dvd's both region 1/2. will they become region 0 and how do you overcome the macrovsion, is it just a case of putting original in dvd rom drive and copying on the fly to my dvd writer.is the quality like for like? many thks for any replies in advance.

Hi
You need to look up DVD ripping, the process of bypassing the copy protection and transferring the video onto your hard drive. From there you can make a copy onto another disk. Presently there is no way to do a disk to disk copy of DVD's
Your copy will have region 0 (Anywhere) , and it wont have macrovsion
