  1. Hi,
Actually I have a movie The Matrix. It is a VCD
(PAL format, I live in INDIA) having 2 CD's. The first VCD shows
me a size of about 660 MB when put in the CD ROM drive of my PC
but when I check the cumulative file size the it is about 715 MB.
How could this discrepancy be possible ?

Also for all the VCD's that I put in my PC's CD-ROM Drive there is such
a difference in the file size when I check the file size by Right Clicking the
CD-ROM Drive's Icon and when I actually check the cumulative file size of
    all the files.

Also I want to make a personal backup of this movie. I have an ASUS
24 X 10 X 40 X CD Writer, which has BURN Proof technology which support
    upto 800 MB CD-R Media.

Shall I use 700 MB Media or 800 MB Media for Burning a copy of the CD
which shows me 660 MB when I check the file size by Right Clicking the
CD-ROM Drive's Icon and when I actually check the cumulative file size
of all the files it is 715 MB.

    Please REPLY ASAP.

    Thanking You

  2. There may be some incorrect total size reporting by Windows...

But, MPEG tracks on S/VCDs are written in MODE2 Form2 and in this mode, ECC (error correction codes) that is on a normal CD-ROM are not used -- giving greater user capacity.

For a S/VCD, you can fit up to about 740 MB of video on a 74min/650 MB disc and up to about 796 MB on an 80min/700MB disc without overburning.

    Regards.
