  1. I have Dazzle Video Creator II which is good but its editing software proram is really weak. I also have Pinnacle's DV Studio which I love for its editing aspects but its capturing is a pain. Can somebody recommend a good software editing program (that isn't too expensive ) that I can use in conjunction with DVCII. Thanks for your help.

I don't think that there is anything that can capture directly from the DVC2 except for MovieStar and another program named "twnh" (I think) that's more or less the result of reverse-engineering how MovieStar talks to the DVC2 card. What you can do is just use MovieStar to capture and open the file in any editor you like that can import MPEG2 files. I tried using MovieStar to edit exactly once, and gave up on it.

I recently purchased a DVCII also and have not been able to directly import the resulting mpg into Tmpgenc. The only thing I have been able to do is to re-encode using DVD2AVI as a frame server and reencoding in TMPGenc. If anyone knows of any other way to edit I would also like to know. When I used the editing in Movie Star I had all kinds of problems with the resulting mpg. The only way I got it to work was to de-multiplex with TMPGenc and then use bbMPEG to multiplex.

I load MPEG2 files from the DVC2 into tmpgenc all the time, no problems. To keep everything in sync when I reencode I extract the audio to a WAV, but that seems to be a common problem and fix for lots of formats.

Which template are you using in DVC2? I have been using the SVCD template and not the MPG2. Do you think that is the problem Sterno?

  6. O.K. I,m not talking about the encoding process such as with TMPGenc which I am familiar with and use to encode. I'm talking about editing as in scene cutting, transitions, importing sound etc.... Pinnacle's Studio DV is great for that but is not ideal for capturing. DVC II is good for capturing but in my opinion comes up short on its editing features. Hence I want the better of both worlds and therein lies the problem.

After my post yesterday I downloaded the trial version of "Edit Studio 3.0" off of CNET. The Edit Studio gave me the option of capturing with DVCII but I have not been able to actually activate the capture from my DV Cam as of yet with this program but I'll give it another shot or contact Edit Studio. If anybody is familiar with the Edit Studio capturing process please advise. Thanks for your replies.

There's a user board for the Dazzle DVCII with lots of good information and plenty of helpful users - here's the link:

There's also a discussion on resolving sync issues by changing some registry settings.
