I have recently built a new computer and have installed XP. Now all of my old cd's with mpeg 2's on them are crashing the system trying to play on the new version of media player. It is not just me, I have a friend with the same problem. Does anyone have a fix for this. I have looked on the Microsoft tech page and they don't seem to address this.

MPEG2..LIKE DVD FILES OR WHAT???i have xp and rip dvd's

You do know that Windows doesn't come with an MPEG2 codec right? You have to install one, typically with a software DVD player such as WinDVD or PowerDVD, although there are standalone drivers floating around. Granted, a missing codec shouldn't be crashing your system, but this is Microsoft we're talking about...
