I am considering purchasing the apex ad-1500 because of its wide compatibility and low price, but I have heard some mention of th eserial number on the player, will this affect the player's ability to do what it boasts of?

You should consider the 1100W also. Go to www.nerd-out.com and go to the forums to read about it. I have one and recently "upgraded" it using their handy dandy .rom upgrade. This is only possible for the 1mb right now, but if you go to the site they will tell you how to find one at Wal-Mart. Plus, they are only $68! Later.
