p.s. Please fill out the "computer details" section of your board profile (it may help others to answer your questions more rapidly and completely in the future). As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
Sorry what does VBR mean?
i'll upload my spec on the profile now.
i've heard from some sites that the time it takes varies between 6 hours to 40 hours?
what about you?
how long does it take you?
and if i gave you my spec can you give me a idea on how long it will take.
So that i can manage my time. -
Just to give you and idea of how long it take to go from avi to vcd I will give you the time frames which I encounter with my equipment.
The first conversion I make, based on the documentations in the How To sections to your left, I extract the audio from the movie into a WAV file using VitualDub. This takes approx 15-20 minutes.
The next step, again based on the same documentation, is to convert the AVI to VCD (MPG), using the WAV this takes approx 15 hours. Yes, it is a long time, but I do this on my spare machine which is only a PIII 300Mhz and 128MB RAM. Hey, it was a freebie!
Hope this gives you some idea of the times. I do notice a great time reduction when I do the same, second step, converstion on my 500Mhz 192MB RAM PC; it takes approx 9 hours.
PS: Dont forget to install all the codecs before starting from the downloads section.
Good Luck. -
Ooops... correction...
I just noticed that the previous expected conversion times from avi-vcd is wrong. I wrote 15 hours, but that was when the template that I loaded was for DVD NTSC; therefore this was considerably longer.
When I used the correct template, VideoCD NTSC the conversion time, using the same machine, is approx 5 hours.
