  1. Hi. I'm new to this site's forum, although the conversion guides have helped me a lot!

But this question is somewhat off-topic. I usually download my movies from either P2P progs like Kazaa or EDonkey, or I go to mIRC. I have heard several people say that they get their movies from Newsgroups... What are these Newsgroups and how can I access them?

  2. I personally hate newsgroups. Everything is broken into many pieces. If your provider doesn't have a very long retention, and you miss a piece, you are screwed. The only way you can get the missing piece is if someone reposts it.

  3. Newsgroups can be great but can also be a pain in the a**! To get the best out of them you need a very good news server, those offered by most ISP's are a waste of time. If using a standard newsgroup access you also need a good newsreader software. I use easynews which costs $10/month for up to 6gigs. As its name suggests it is easy to use with a web based access or regular NNTP if you wish. It also has pretty good retention of 45 days. I have yet to find a really useable free news server but paying the smallish price for easynews is worth it for the quality of the service they offer and the huge choice of movies, music and warez available.

This is not intended to be an advert for easynews, there are probably other pay services as good or better, it just happens to be the one I use after recomendation from a friend.

If you want to find out more about newsgroups, try a google search on 'usenet' (the proper/old name for the system) or 'newsgroups'
