playable in a stand-alone?

I'm trying to find out what I'm doing wrong.
I wanted to backup my digital camera tapes and some of my movies (before my kids damage them) and burn them on a dvd-5 so they can be played on a stand-alone. But I don't seem to get it to work. I used the instructions I got from www.doom9.org, which refers to http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/copy.html and http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/nero.html for burning.
I burned several no-brand dvd-r's (cheaper to experiment with) and tried to play them on several stand-alone players which are supposed to play them (according to the manuals).
What am I doing wrong?

Never mind. I found out that my Nero was the problem. I still need to find out exacly what, but with Prassi Primo DVD they work fine. Even the El-Cheapo's.
