  1. Have any Pioneer DVR104 owners seen something like this?

    System: W2K SP2, PIII 1 GHZ, VIA Chipset, 512 RAM, 80GB Seagate, DX8.1

I have copied several DVDs and probably 40 of my VHS Tapes to DVD using a mix of Prassi and Ulead DVD, and the 104/A04 has been working fine. I use both "Legacy" and "Pioneer" DVDs, the only diff being the Pioneers are 2x as fast to burn, but at 3X the cost... Everything has been great...

Then last night I burned another one sucessfully, and on the next attempt (using Ulead) got "Error 10 at sector 317888 - command 00 sense 06 ASC-28 ASCQ:00."

Hmmm. I rebooted, and then tried to burn a DVD rip using Prassi. I was rewarded with "Error-10 at Seacot 469856 - Command 35 Sense:FF ASC:00 ASCQ:08".

So now with 2 different burning programs I get a similar error. NOTHING has been changed on the system, no hardware adds or new software. Sure looks like a hardware problem to me...

Any ideas appreciated. I hate to have to buy a new unit just to troubleshoot the old one... BTW, the Pioneer help technician was, uhhh, less than useful...

  2. I encountered Sense errors twice with my Pioneer 104. One time it occured because I was using a DVD-RW that hadn't been properly erased by Prassi even though it came up as ready to use when using Prassi. I just had to use another disc and that DVD-RW was no longer usable. Even after doing a full erase it still caused Sense errors.

The second reason for Sense errors is sometimes the PIO/UDMA setting. Try changing the appropriate ide channel in the device manager to the opposite of what it is currently set at. Most people usually change it from UDMA to PIO to stop Sense errors from occuring. On my system, I actually had to do the reverse since I would always get Sense errors when in PIO mode.
